What's the best way to embed video on your website? I get asked this question all the time, and while YouTube is generally my answer, due to the fact that it's free, easy to use and great for SEO, there is another solution that may be better depending on your situation.
If you've invested a bit of money already in a promotional video, and want to generate some advanced data around views, length of views, and even generate leads via turnstyles actually on the video itself, then Wistia is the solution for you.
I'm not paid by Wistia at all. I just found the solution on my own in about 2015. What attracted me to Wistia is the ability to easily overlay a "turnstyle" over the video at any point.
Let's say you have a 2-minute promo video for a product, but your data says people watch the first 15 seconds of the video then leave.
You can overlay a graphic at the 14 second mark of your video that says - "interested in learning more about our product? put your email in here and we'll follow up with you."
The user literally types their email into a field overlaid on the video itself, and it goes into your Wistia account - which can integrate with Mailchimp, Hubspot and another email marketing automation platforms.
Wistia also gives pretty advanced analytics, far beyond those of YouTube, including user email and location data. So you can actually have sales reps follow up directly with people who watched your video without even filling in their email address.
Pretty sick stuff for marketers.
