Principles of a Successful Web Design / Software Company

Principle #2: Momentum Is Everything (Principles of a Successful Web Design / Software Company)

By: Paul Hickey, Founder and Lead Strategist

All of our company’s principles go together perfectly, and no other principle exemplifies that concept more so than Principle #2 – MOMENTUM IS EVERYTHING.

Seems intense, huh?

Strive to be proactive and look to create momentum.

Without momentum, there is no company.

I think where most digital agencies start to fail without realizing it is that they don’t prepare well enough.

Being unprepared means being super slow.

Being behind and being slow obviously means you can’t be fast.

Fast = SPEED.

SPEED does NOT mean the opposite of quality.

Speed comes from being proactive, and from being prepared. Months and years of preparation create momentum.

Momentum creates more and more opportunities for your business.

When you’re unprepared, you become scared of new opportunities, because you can’t even handle what’s currently on your plate.

This is not only a business killer, but it’s a digital agency mass murderer.

When you wait for things to happen, or wait for feedback, or what to hear back, you’re losing momentum, not creating it. You’re falling victim to the outside factors out of your control and you’re putting yourself in a reactive state.

A reactive state breeds the attitude that most clients have felt from most agencies – DEFENSIVENESS, PUSH BACK, UNDERPERFORMANCE.

Allowing a culture of “getting it done on our time” is unacceptable. The market dictates the opportunity.

As a client services company, we have to move when our clients say to move, which is difficult for most, but not for us. It’s not difficult for us because we’ve planned for it; we’ve helped create the momentum to get them to move in the first place.

That’s the difference between a successful agency, and one in trouble.

When you’re creating the momentum, you’re proactive, prepared and ready to go. No hesitation, no BS, just work.

That’s how we’re fast. That’s how we win.
