The Importance of Dreaming Big and Putting In The Grunt Work

I share part of my story about how I dreamed big, but put in a ton of non-glamourous "grunt work" at the beginning of my career. This point of view has never escaped me and I live by this philosophy to this day.
I think it's important for people to think about what type of company they want to work for, and what type of life they want to have, before thinking of exactly what they want to do on a daily basis.
Specifically, before you decide that you want to be an engineer, or a lawyer, or dentist, I think it makes sense to think about the lifestyle you want, and the type of people you'd be working with.
Eventually, you'll have to hone in on a set of skills, but skills are becoming more and more commoditized. To get where you want in your career, you'll have to be the type of person who dreams big, but also puts in the dirty grunt work.
Your career will change each year, and skills are always learnable. You may decide you want a change, and that's fine - you can make anything happen, as long as you develop the gut for it and the work ethic required.
